Week of September 2, 2019


Half-Day Dismissal
Beginning on September 11th, students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon one Wednesday each month. Students may attend Adventure Day even if they are not registered for After School/Adventure Days.  You must complete all the appropriate paperwork before Friday, September 6. The cost of the half-day is $40.  

All students should be picked up in the carline or have Adventure Day reservations. The bus will leave for the Mallard Creek Campus after the 12:00 dismissal.

Lunch will be served at the regular lunchtimes for Elementary and Middle School students.



Feed the Need Fall Fundraiser
Join us on September 19th at 6:30 pm in the Event Center for the Kick-off Parent Night of Feed the Need.  Parents of students who attend will receive an incentive reward for their attendance.  We look forward to a great Fund Raising event. You are the key to the success of the program.

All students are welcome to participate in the Morning Mile from 7:00 - 7:30 am in Gym C.  No minimum number of laps and students can join anytime.  There is no charge to participate.

Chapel
Join the HG students and staff for Chapel on Thursday, September 12, at 8:00 am.  We will worship through song and a message from God's Word.  We look forward to seeing you there.

The format has changed for collecting Box Tops for Education.  No more clipping, just download the App and follow the instructions.

Week of May 13, 2019

Elementary Field Day will be held on Tuesday, May 21st.  
TK-2nd grade Field Day will be from 8:00-10:30am and 3rd-5th grade Field Day will be from 12:00-2:15pm.  All events will be held on the football field and practice field.  In the case of inclement weather, Field Day will be moved inside to the gymnasiums.  

In order to make Field Day run smoothly, we are in need of several volunteers!  If you are interested in helping with Field Day please use the link below to sign-up. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Blackmon, Elementary PE Teacher.

Summer Camps registration is now open. Click here to register. Camps are open to all HGCS students and HGBC members.


The last day to submit Box Tops is rapidly approaching. Please send them in by Wednesday, May 15th. Include your student’s name and grade. Prizes will be awarded to the students who turned in the most per grade. Thank you for supporting your school!

Mother/Son Event
The annual Mother/Son event will be on Saturday, May 5, at Big Air Charlotte, from 4-5pm.  Follow the link: https://hgchristian.brushfire.com/events/443453 to register. 

Chick-fil-A on Albemarle Rd is offering a free kids meal with the purchase of an adult meal from 2pm to 8pm on the day of the event when the ticket is presented at the time of purchase.

Open Enrollment 
The 2018-2019 enrollment instructions for current students is available on RenWeb.

If you have any questions, regarding re-enrollment, please contact the admissions office at 704-531-3589. Enrollment for HG Church members and non-members is now open. As of March 1, the Re-enrollment fee increased to $600.

Teacher and Assistant Appreciation Week:
An elementary school celebration of our teachers and assistants during the week of May 1-4. Please support them in prayer during this week and show your appreciation with our daily themes:

Tuesday, May 1 – Notes of Encouragement
Wednesday, May 2 – Flower/Candy
Thursday, May 3 – Gum/Mints

Box Tops

It’s time to turn in those Box Tops!

Thank you for supporting Hickory Grove Christian School by collecting Box Tops. Our school earns 10 cents for each box top submitted. We will be collecting Box Tops on May 9th. You can help us reach our goal by sending in your Box Tops by that date. This will be the last collection date for this school year.

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF TIPS TO HELP MAKE SUBMITTING BOX TOPS EASIER:

• Ask your family members and neighbors for save them for you.
• Bundle your Box Tops in groups of 50 using a Ziploc bag or envelope.
• Write your child’s name, homeroom teacher and grade on the bag or envelope.

We will give out prizes for the students submitting the most Box Tops in each grade level.

Once we send in all of our Box Tops, our school will receive a check. It’s that simple!

Student Security is important at HGCS. Therefore, carline tags should be displayed in vehicles for student pick-up in the afternoon. This applies to Main Campus carline, or North Campus bus carline pick-up. If you need additional carline tags, please contact the Elementary Office. Additional carline tags are available for parent pick-up.

Student Absences

If your student is absent for any reason, please email the teacher and the Elementary Office, nancymcdowell@hgchristian.org. Remember to follow the CDC Guidelines when your student is not feeling well. Students should be free of the following for 24 hours before returning to school: fever of 100 degrees or more, vomiting or diarrhea. For attendance records to be accurate, please email the Elementary Office each day your student is not in class.

Re-enrollment for Current HGCS Parents
The 2018-2019 Re-enrollment instructions for current students will be added to the Renweb announcement page on November 1 and will run through January 31, 2018.  If you have any questions, regarding re-enrollment, please contact the admissions office at 704-531-3589.

Spirit Week
September 25-29 is Spirit Week at HGCS. Each day will be observed by students in a unique way. We encourage all students to show their HGCS Lion Pride.
                                    


Students should avoid the following: tightly fitting garments and garments with inappropriate language on them.

The week will conclude with a pep rally at 2pm in the gym as we prepare for the Home Coming Varsity Football game Friday night at 7pm.

Snakes Alive
September 29, Ron Cromer, a specialist in herpetology, will be here to share with elementary students.  He will share an educational Power Point, allow students to view non-venomous snakes and reptiles tamed for petting.  The event will conclude with the voluntary opportunity for students to touch the reptiles.  Parents who do not want their student to participate, should email their teacher.

Summer Box Tops
With Spirit Week in full swing, let’s continue our school pride by turning in your summer Box Top collections.  As a reminder, at the beginning of summer we asked you to save your Box Tops.  We will award Chick-fil-A prizes to the Elementary, Middle and High school students that collects the most Box Tops.  Please submit labels in a ziploc bag with your child’s name, grade, and homeroom teacher.  It would be helpful if you could put them in bags of 50 Box tops.  The Box Tops are due by Friday, September 29th.



Summer Reading Reward Breakfast
On Thursday, October 5, we will celebrate another successful Summer of reading.  Each individual class met their reading goal, and has earned breakfast from Chick-fil-A (a Chicken Biscuit).  You may see the CFA cow “moooving” around campus that morning delivering the delicious rewards. During the week, the coupons earned by individual students will distributed by their teacher.  We are grateful for the continued sponsorship of the Summer Reading program by Chick-fil-A, Albemarle Rd.

Spirit Night – Pelican’s Snowballs
Join your HGCS family at Pelican’s Snowballs, 8009 Fairview Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227 on Thursday, October 5th from 1pm – 8pm for Spirit Night.  Menu options begin with $2 Kiddie cup, to $5 Avalanche. There’s even a “Pup Cup”, for dog’s only of course. HGCS receives a portions of all proceeds for the evening’s purchases.
